Eagles Upend Mavericks

          The Mesa State Wrestling Team went on the road last night and wrestled the Chadron State Eagles in Chadron, Nebraska. Mesa State lost seven of the ten bouts on there way to a 25-11 loss in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual. The loss puts the Mavericks at 6-6 on the season and 3-3 in the RMAC.

          Mesa State won the first two bouts of the night. Clay Flot (Kersey, Colo.) received a forfeit at 125 pounds and Sophomore Tyler Nelson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) won his match at 133 pounds 5-4 over Eagle Dustin Stodola. The Mavs led 9-0 at that point.

          Mesa State went on to lose the next five matches to fall behind 16-9. Kyle Brightman (Cheyenne, Wyo.) stopped the losing streak and picked up his ninth consecutive win, beating Eagle Jordan Debus 8-4. Brightman is now 12-9 on the season and 5-1 in the RMAC. Mesa State was docked a team point and still trailed 16-11.

          Mesa State lost the final two matches and the dual 25-11.

          A select bunch of individuals will compete on Saturday at the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open in Golden, Colo. Mesa State will square off with Western State On Thursday February 3rd in an RMAC dual beginning at 7:00pm in Brownson Arena.
