Box Score Mesa State (7-4, 4-3) battled back from a 20 point deficit in the second half but fell short, falling to undefeated Metro State (10-0, 6-0) 58-53 at Brownson Arena.
Metro held a 10 point halftime lead (30-20) and extended the lead to 20 points (40-20) at the 16:35 mark in the second period. MSC went on a 21-4 run to close the gap to three points (41-44) on Kelsey Sigl's two free throws with 6:34 remaining in regulation. MSC would come as close as two points (47-49) with 3:41 left in the game following two made free throws by Katrina Selsor. Metro's Kristin Valencia answered with a trey to push the lead to five. The Roadrunners closed out the game hitting 4 of 5 free throws and capitalizing on two turnovers.
Valencia led the Roadrunners with 13 points.
MSC was led by Katrina Selsor's 14 points and four assists. Sharaya Selsor finished with 12 points including 8 of 8 from the foul line. Sigl pulled down nine rebounds and finished with eight points.
MSC will host Regis University Monday evening at 5 p.m. at Brownson Arena on the campus of Mesa State College.
