Box Score Mesa State (10-5, 7-4) handed the Western State Mountaineers (5-10, 3-8) a 78-68 loss at Brownson Arena Saturday night. The Mavericks wore their gold throwback uniforms for the first time this season.
MSC had four starters finish with double digits including Katrina Selsor 's double-double. K. Selsor finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Sharaya Selsor led all players with 18 points and four assists.
Kelsey Sigl tallied 13 points and five rebounds. Amy Weitzeil had 10 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.
The Mavericks led by 11 points at half (38-27) shooting 52 percent (13-25) from the field.
MSC held a double digit lead through the first ten minutes of the second half. Western State cut the deficit to nine points at the 9:07 mark and was able to close the gap to seven points with 1:28 remaining in the game. MSC hit 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch to hold off the Mountaineers.
Western State was led by Megan Groen's 14 points off the bench. Katie Hall finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
MSC shot 53.2 percent (25-47) from the field and hit 5 of 11 treys (45.5%). WSC shot 33.9 percent (21-62) for the game and finished 8 of 26 (30.8%) from beyond the arc.
MSC will host Colorado Mines next Friday night at Brownson Arena. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
