The Mesa State Women's Soccer team has jumped out to a 2-0 start. This past weekend the Mavs defeated regional foes Augustana and St. Cloud State in Durango at the Dirks Women's Soccer Classic. It is the fifth consecutive season Mesa State has gone undefeated in the opening weekend.
In the season opener, Mesa State defeated Augustana by a score of 1-0. Senior
Daniela Ramirez (Rupert, Idaho) scored what proved to be the game winner in the 30th minute. Freshman
Tayler Franklin (Upland, Calif.) was credited with the assist.
Senior
Alicia Kahler (Spokane, Wash.) picked up her first win and first shutout of the season in goal. Kahler only faced two shots and didn't make a save.
In yesterday's match, the Mavericks defeated St. Cloud State by a score of 1-0. Freshman
Tayler Franklin scored her first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute which was also the game winner. Senior
Daniela Ramirez was credited with the assist.
Junior
Arielle Harris (Glendale, Ariz.) made her Maverick debut and picked up the win and the shutout. Harris made a crucial save with 23 seconds left to help preserve the victory. Harris finished with 3 saves.
Mesa State will head to St. George, Utah to take on the Dixie State Red Storm and the Central Washington Wildcats this weekend. The Mavericks will take on the Red Storm on Thursday before battling the Wildcats on Saturday.
The Mavericks will have their home opener on Wednesday September 22nd against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks.
