The Mesa State Mavericks dropped a 3-2 decision to the UCCS Mountain Lions Sunday afternoon in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's soccer match. The loss drops the Mavericks to 3-5-1 overall and 1-3-0 in RMAC play, while UCCS improves to 5-3-0 on the season and 2-2-0 in the RMAC.
The Mountain Lions got on the board early in the contest. In the 2nd minute, Mountain Lion Josi Talbot took a pass from Kristin Preble and found the right side of the net. It was Talbot's third goal of the season. UCCS led 1-0 at that point.
Mesa State evened the score at one a peice in the in the 20th minute. Redshirt Junior
Sara Islas (Tucson, Ariz.) scored her second goal of the season when she found the left side of the net. Islas took a pass from Senior Marisa Cascio (Chandler, Ariz.) who received a pass from Sophomore
Kelci Crispe (Lakewood, Colo.)
UCCS took the lead again, when Lindsay Link scored her first goal of the season. Link scored on a free kick and gave the Mountain Lions a 2-1 edge.
The Mountain Lions would tack on a goal late in the first half. Jennifer Joern scored her first goal of the season to give UCCS a 3-1 advantage. Joern scored on the left side of the net. She took a pass from Julia Saenz on a free kick.
The Mavericks would cut into the lead in the 76th minute. Senior
Daniela Ramirez (Rupert, Idaho) scored her second goal of the season when she took a pass from Freshman
Tayler Franklin (Upland, Calif.) and found the middle of the goal. The UCCS would be cut to 3-2 at that point.
Mesa State will be back in action on Friday October 1st against the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves at 4:00pm at Walker Field.
