Sara Jordan pitched a four-hit shutout and back-to-back homeruns from freshmen Megan Smith and Whitney Bailey propelled the Mavericks to a 2-0 victory over Colorado School of Mines in the opening game of the 2010 RMAC Softball Tournament in Denver (Metro State).
Jordan allowed one hit in the first inning and two in the second, and then shut down Colorado School of Mines until giving up a hit in the sixth. She walked two and struck out five, picking up win number 12 (12-9) on the year.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Mavericks freshman duo; Megan Smith and Whitney Bailey hit back-to-back homeruns to right center. Smith had a 2-0 count and Bailey hit the first pitch she looked at for her seventh homerun of the year. Smith's homerun was her fifth this season. Smith and Bailey each went 2-for-3.
