No. 11 ranked Metro State scored 11 runs on 11 hits on the way to an 11-5 win over Mesa State in game one of a doubleheader Sunday at Bergman Field.
MSC took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Gabriella Parra scoring Danielle Valli who hit a two-out triple to right center.
Metro scored three runs in the fourth only to have MSC tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the inning. The Roadrunners broke the game open scoring five runs in the fifth including four homeruns. Metro put up three runs in the fifth.
In the series finale Metro's Julia Diehl remained perfect on the season picking up her fifth win (5-0) as the Roadrunners held off the Mavericks for a 5-4 win.
Metro scored a run in all but two innings and held a 5-2 lead in to the bottom of the seventh. MSC scored two in the seventh and had a runner on when Metro's Diehl struck out the final batter to complete the series sweep.
MSC tallied eight hits with multiple hits from Lita Romero (2-2) and Megan Smith (2-3).
MSC will travel to Ft. Lewis for a doubleheader Wednesday before returning home to host Neb.-Kearney in a four game series beginning Saturday at Noon.
