Mesa State and Regis University split a pair of games Monday afternoon in Denver at the Regis Softball Field.
Regis' Nikki Haberkorn went 2-for-4 with 3RBI to help the Rangers to a 6-2 win in game one of a doubleheader Monday afternoon at Regis Softball Field.
Regis broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth scoring two runs and Haberkorn's three-run homerun in the sixth pushed the lead to 6-1. MSC scored a run in the seventh on a double to left center by Lita Romero scoring Dani Valli. Regis sealed the victory on a ground out to end the game.
In a repeat of Sunday's doubleheader in which the Rangers won game one and dropped game two, MSC again bounced back in game two Monday posting a 10-4 win.
MSC scored 10 runs on 10 hits including an outstanding performance from catcher Whitney Bailey. The freshman went 3-for-4 with one run scored and 2 RBI. On the day Bailey went 4-for-7 with three doubles. Ashlee Duffy was 2-for-2, scoring three runs and knocking in two.
MSC jumped out to a 10-0 lead through four innings posting four runs in the second inning and five runs in the fourth. All four of Regis' runs came in the fifth on three hits and one MSC error.
Starter Cierra Lard picked up her second win in two days pitching a complete game. Lard allowed four runs (3 earned) on 10 hits, striking out two.
MSC returns home this Friday and Saturday to host CSU-Pueblo. Friday's doubleheader begins at Noon.
Saturday is the annual 'Swing for Life' cancer benefit game. MSC will wear black jerseys with pink numbers. The jerseys will be part of a silent auction which will take place during game two of the doubleheader. Game one Saturday will start at 11:00 am with the ceremonial first pitch by MSC alum, Ms. Kathy Howa, a cancer survivor and founder of 'Swing for Life'.
