Skarda Finishes 4th at Nationals

Sophomore Alexis Skarda finished 4th in the 1 mile run at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Skarda is Mesa State's first NCAA qualifier since the sport was introduced in 2006.

Skarda finished the race in 4:52.09, good enough to break her own school record and finish first among all RMAC competitors. Seattle Pacific Senior Jessica Pixler won the race in 4:46.42. Pixler had the nation's top time heading into the NCAA meet.

With the 4th Place finish, Skarda becomes a United States Track and Field, Cross Country Coaches Association All-American. This marks Skarda's second All-American Award, she won her first at the 2008 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

This weekend concludes the indoor portion of the schedule and the outdoor season is just beginning. The Mavericks will hit the track on March 27th for the Colorado Mines Open, their first meet of the outdoor season.
