Mesa State (3-7, 1-7) fell to Neb.-Kearney (5-5, 4-2) in a doubleheader at Bergman Field, 13-4 and 6-5 Saturday afternoon.
UNK's 13-4 five inning victory in game one was the second most runs the Mavericks have allowed this season (UCCS scored 14 against the Mavs on 2/27). The Lopers raced out to a 9-0 lead after two innings and added four in the fourth. MSC put up two runs in the third inning and one run each in the fourth and fifth inning. Three of the Mavericks four runs were solo homeruns by
Katie Mitchell,
Ashlee Duffy and
Gabriella Parra.
MSC tallied 11 hits and left eight runners on base. UNK finished with 12 hits and stranded seven runners. MSC starter
Cierra Lard went 1.1 inning allowing eight runs (7 earned) on five hits. Freshman
Wailana Borrero pitched 3.2 innings of relief giving up five runs on seven hits.
In game two UNK held off MSC for a 6-5 win to clinch the doubleheader sweep.
Parra's solo homerun to lead off the the bottom of the seventh pulled MSC to within one run (5-6), before Loper starter Kirstie Hiatt shut down the next three batters in order for the victory.
UNK took a 4-0 lead in the third. MSC tied the game a 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth. The Lopers answered back with two runs in the fifth for a 6-4 lead.
MSC recorded seven hits including multiple hits from Parra (2-4) and Mitchell (3-3). The Mavericks stranded seven runners.

Sara Jordan allowed six runs on 10 hits.
MSC and UNK will play a scheduled doubleheader Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
