Mesa State was at the Division I New Mexico Classic and Combined Events meet this past weekend. Sophomore Alexis Skarda had a Automatic National Qualifying time in her win in the 1 mile race. Her time of 4:53.73 won the race and is the fastest time in the RMAC this season. Skarda held off competitors from Utah State, Colorado Mines and New Mexico State to pick up the win.
Skarda is the first athlete to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Mesa State history.
Other Notes from the New Mexico Classic:
Personal records were set by Breanna Jones and Sierra Pickslay in the 200m dash.
Jones was .09 seconds away from breaking the school record and her time has moved her up the conference list to 9th.
Alicia Gieck also ran a pr, dropping 2 seconds off of her 400m dash
Jessica Smith also raced her lifetime best in the 800m run bettering her previous mark by 2 seconds
Jessica Needham crushed her previous best throw in the weight and was just 8 inches shy of owning the school record.
Lindsay Hart was Mesa's first ever pentathlon competitor. She scored 2074 total points in her debut and is sitting at number 10 in the conference.
