Mavs Win Conference Opener

Win at Chadron State 66-62

Mesa State opened Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action on the road Friday night beating Chadron State 66-62 to improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.

The Mavericks outscored the Eagles 38-27 in the second half and erase a seven point (28-35) halftime deficit. MSC opened the second half with a 10-1 run including six points from Kelsey Sigl to take the lead early in the second half. A jumper by Sigl at the 14:38 mark gave the Mavs a 43-42 lead they would not relinquish.

Sigl scored a game high 21 points, 13 in the second half, finishing 6-of-10 from the floor and 9-of-11 from the foul line.

Sharaya Selsor and Katrina Selsor combined for 26 points, scoring 14 and 12 points respectively. Katrina pulled down a game high nine rebounds.

MSC was outrebounded by the Eagles 42-35, but won the battle of the boards in the second half with a 21-15 advantage.  The Mavericks shot 81.8 percent (18-22) from the free throw line while the Eagles shot 65.2 percent (15-23).

Mesa State will play at University of Neb.-Kearney Saturday night.
