Box Score Mesa State's comeback bid came up short Saturday night in the Clarion Inn Thanksgiving Classic. Dixie State held off the Mavericks 77-69 and remains undefeated at 5-0. The loss was the first for MSC who stand at 3-1 entering RMAC action this weekend.
MSC had three players score in double digits led by Sharaya Selsor's team high 19 points, including 13 in the second half. Selsor was 7-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the 3-point line.
Kelsey Sigl and Katrina Selsor finished with 18 points each and combined for 16 rebounds and 11-of-14 from the foul line. Katrina Selsor's nine rebounds led the team.
DSC opened the game on a 9-0 run and held their largest lead of 14 points (23-9) mid-way through the first half. The Red Storm's Sheila Adams registered 11-first half points to help lead Dixie to a 36-27 halftime advantage.
MSC started the second half quickly cutting the Red Storm lead to four points with a 12-4 run to pull to within 39-43. The Mavericks took their first lead in the game at 9:45 off a lay-up by Katrina Selsor to cap off a 9-0 run and a 52-50 lead.
Dixie regained the lead on a jumper and a made free throw (53-52) following a foul. The Red Storm's two point lead (65-63) with 4:45 remaining quickly turned in to 10 point lead with an 8-0 run in a two minute span. DSC converted on 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch to escape Brownson Arena with the victory.
Dixie was led by Adams' game high 27 points, scoring 18 from the 3-point line (6-13) and 9-of-10 from the foul line.
MSC will open RMAC action on the road this weekend at Chadron State and University of Neb.-Kearney.
