Mavericks Clinch Playoff Berth with 1-0 Win

                Friday night's match between the UCCS Mountain Lions and the Mesa State Mavericks and plenty of playoff implications. A Maverick win would mean they qualify for the playoffs for the first time in program's history, a UCCS means they would still be alive for a playoff spot.

                The Maverick's had several oppurtunities but couldn't capitalize and at the end of 45 minutes, the score remained 0-0. Mesa State took seven first half shots to the Mountain Lions' three.

                Mesa State would strike in the 47th minute. Senior Steve Shaw (Albuquerque, N.M.)scored his team leading fourth goal of the season. Shaw had a breakaway and beat one defender before he put the ball in the back of the net. The Mavericks led 1-0 at this point.

                Mesa State would go on to win the match 1-0 and secure there first postseason appearance in the prgram's history. The Maverick's record now sits at 8-6-2 and 4-6-2 in the RMAC, while UCCS fell to 3-12-1 and 2-9-1 in RMAC competition. 

                The Mavericks will be on the road the rest of the season. Next Friday, they will play CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo before taking on the Regis Rangers on Sunday October 31st. After that they will await their RMAC Tournament opponent.
