#6 Skyhawks Soar Past Mavericks 3-1

The Mesa State Women's Soccer team was playing its third consecutive ranked opponent on Wednesday in the form of the sixth ranked Fort Lewis Skyhawks. The Skyhawks proved to be too much for the Mavericks to handle as they were victorious by a score of 3-1. Mesa State's record dropped to 4-7-2 and 2-6-1 in the RMAC, Fort Lewis improved to 12-1-0 and 8-1-0 in RMAC play.

Fort Lewis jumped out to an early lead in the 1st half with a goal in the 22nd minute and never looked back. In the second half, the Skyhawks got two goals in a four minute timespan. The first came in the 58th minute and the next came in the 62nd minute.

Mesa State got on the board in the 70th minute when Sophomore Kelci Crispe (Lakewood, Colo.)scored her first goal of the season. Crispe took a shot from deep outside the box which one hopped past the goalie into the net.

Fort Lewis went on to win 3-1 and kept hold of the top spot in the RMAC standings. Mesa State currently sits tied for 8th with CSU-Pueblo and Adams State, both of which they hold the tiebreaker over.

Friday will be the last home game for the Mavericks this season. Mesa State will take on the Regis Rangers, who are currently 4th in the latest NCAA Central Region Rankings. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm at Walker Field.
