The 20th ranked Mesa State Mavericks started out the RMAC duals with a win over the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys, 31-15. Mesa State won seven of the ten bouts en route to the win. After spliting the first four matches with the Cowboys, the Mavericks won five of the next six matches.

Chris Rubalcaba kept his good start going defeating Cowboy Donovan Troup 11-1 at 133 pounds. Rubalcaba is now 15-7 and 1-0 in the RMAC.
2009 National Qualifier
Rhett Breed was inserted back into the lineup tonight at 141 pounds and went on to 3-1 win over Cowboy Daniel Perales. Breed is now 5-2 and 1-0 in RMAC competition.
2009 All-American and #2 ranked Senior
Chase Walker was also inserted into the lineup tonight. Walker defeated Nick Sanchez 5-3 to pick up his 7th win of the season.
In the upper weights, Mesa State got pins out of Andy Laiminger at 174,
Shane Miller at 197, and
Trevor Stapp at 285 to seal the deal for the Mavericks. Stapp's pin came against Cowboy Jesse Boggs, who was a National Qualifier in 2009.
The Mavericks will travel to Orem, UT this weekend to compete in the Utah Valley University Open. Their next dual will be on January 13th as they travel to Nebraska Kearney to take on the 3rd ranked Lopers. The Mavericks will return home on January 29th to take on the 'Lopes of Grand Canyon University at Brownson Arena.
