Mavs Fall in Title Game

Jordan, Prather & Rayman - Named to All-Tournament Team

                Mesa State softball team advanced to the RMAC softball championship despite losing in the opening game of the tournament Thursday morning to Colorado Mines. The Mavericks (seeded six) stormed back in the elimination bracket winning four consecutive games including a 7-3 win over Colorado Mines to advance to the title game.

Metro State went undefeated in the double elimination tournament ending MSC's streak, 8-0 in five innings Saturday afternoon. The win clinches an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for the Roadrunners. MSC (27-19 overall) will found out Sunday evening if an invitation to the Central Region will be awarded. 
                Metro took a 1-0 lead after one inning and broke the game open with a 6-run third inning and a 7-0 lead. The Roadrunners scored 6 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits and two MSC errors. Metro run-ruled the Mavs on an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
                Starter Jessica Rayman went 2.1 inning allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits. Reliever Sara Jordan went 2.0 innings giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits. MSC was limited to 4 hits, three hits coming in the first two innings. 
                Metro State tied the NCAA Division II single season homerun record (98 homeruns), a record MSC set in 2001. MSC set the record in 54 games; Metro tied the record in 50 games. 
                Sara Jordan, Jamie Prather and Jessica Rayman were named to the All-Tournament Team.
