Softball Wins Central Region Pod-Tournament

Mesa State (30-19) softball team comes from behind to beat CSU-Pueblo 10-6 at the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament to win the Central Region pod tournament at Regis University Softball Field in Denver.

The Mavericks now advance to the double elimination Super Region 3 Tournament and will play Winona State University (47-11); winners of the Central Regional pod-tournament held at Winona State Alumni Field earlier today. Winona State defeated Wayne State 2-0.

Mesa State went undefeated in the four team pod tournament, defeating No. 1 seed Metro State to open the tournament. MSC defeated CSU-Pueblo Saturday to advance to the championship game today. CSU-Pueblo beat Colorado Mines to advance to the championship and would have needed to beat the Mavericks twice today. MSC scored 7 runs in the seventh inning to clinch the victory.

Mesa State and Winona State will play the best-of-three series with the winner to advance to the NCAA National Championship. Winona State will host the series next weekend in Winona, Minn.
