Mesa State women's golf team won the Regis Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood. MSC finished the two day event with a team total 687, leading the tournament from start to finish. Adams State College placed second, 11 strokes behind with a team total 698. Host Regis University was third (721) and Colorado Christian finished fourth (769).
MSC freshman Jennifer Hilts placed second overall carding a 165, one stroke back of individual winner Jenny Ives' (Adams State) 164. Hilts led after a round one 80 on Monday, four stroked ahead of Ives' day one 84. Hilts and Ives each recorded a round of 80, the lowest score of the tournament.
Freshman Jessica Berve tied for third place overall turning in a 167. Senior Sadie Peavler-Farnsworth tied for sixth with a 173. Afton Balling carded a 182, placing her 12th overall. Brittani White finished with a 194.
MSC is ranked fifth in the Central Region in last week's regional standings.
The Mavericks will host the Quality Inn Maverick Spring Invitational this coming Monday and Tuesday, April 13-14, at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa. Six teams, including MSC will compete; Adams State, Chadron State, CSU-Pueblo, Grand Canyon and Regis University. Play begins Monday at 9 a.m.
