Adams State scored two runs in the top of the seventh and held on to defeat MSC 5-4 in game two Sunday afternoon at Bergman Field. MSC won game one 10-4 scoring 7 runs in the sixth to begin the day.
In game one ASC raced out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. MSC scored 3 runs in the fifth and clinched the victory with a 7-run sixth. Lauren Cross' two-out 3-run homerun in the seventh was her ninth homerun of the year. Seniors Jamie Prather and Meagan Hennessy combined for 5 hits, 3 runs and 2 RBI.
Sara Jordan pitched 2.0 shutout innings in relief of starter Jessica Rayman. Jordan improved to 12-6 with the win.
In the series finale the Mavericks took a 4-3 lead following a 3-run sixth inning. The Grizzlies answered back in the top half of the seventh scoring 2 runs on 2 hits and earn the series split. MSC starter Cierra Lard (3-3) allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits in 6.0 innings.
MSC will travel to Denver next week for the RMAC Softball Tournament April 30-May 2 hosted by Metro State College. The tournament bracket will be released Monday morning.
