Mesa State women's golf team finished fifth overall and captured fourth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Golf Championships at the Sundance Golf Course in Buckeye, Ariz.
RMAC affiliate Fort Hays State and Montana State Billings won first and second place respectively in the RMAC title battle. As part of the central region, teams from that region were invited to participate in the tournament. Upper Iowa University won the overall event with a two-day total 630. The next best team Fort Hays State was 39-strokes back with a 669. Montana State Billings' 684 was one stroke better than fourth place Western New Mexico's 685. MSC held down fifth place overall carding a two-day total 694.
Freshman Jessica Berve tied for seventh overall with a 165. Berve shot a 77 in the final round, 11 strokes under her day one round of 88. Berve was the fifth best RMAC golfer in the field and earned All-Tournament Team honors with a top five finish.
Senior Sadie Peavler-Farnsworth and freshman Afton Balling each tied for 19th (173) place along with three other golfers. Jennifer Hilts shot a 187 placing her 37th overall. Brittani White carded a two-day total 192 finishing in 48th place.
The tournament included 13 schools, 10 RMAC schools, and over 64 golfers.
The Mavericks are ranked in the central region and look to earn a bid to the regional tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. beginning May 4-6.
