Mavs Earns Back-to-Back Series Sweep

Win Streak at Eight Games

                MSC Softball wrapped up its second consecutive series sweep beating Western New Mexico 7-6 and 17-9 in Silver City Sunday afternoon. The doubleheader sweep extends their win streak to eight and pushes their record to 21-15 overall and 17-13 in league play.

                In game one MSC scored six runs in the first inning and held a 7-3 lead in to the bottom of the seventh, holding off a late charge by the Mustangs who scored three runs to pull to within 7-6. WNMU's rally ended on a fly ball to leftfield leaving three stranded base runners. MSC tallied 13 hits in the game and five players with multiple hits.

                Sara Jordan picked up the victory in relief of starter Jessica Rayman. Jordan went 4.0 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. Rayman started the game and gave up 3 runs (0 earned) on six hits. Jamie Prather had a team high 3 hits (3-4).

                The Mavericks exploded for 17 runs in the series finale on the way to a 17-9 victory. MSC scored 5 in the second, 4 in the third and 8 runs in the sixth in the run-rule shortened game (6 innings). Six Mavs had at least two hits each and three with extra base hits. Prather went 3 for 4, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored.

                Starter Cierra Lard (3-2) went 4.0 innings allowing 6 runs on 8 hits and struck out five Mustang batters. Rayman finished up the final 2.0 innings allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits.

                MSC returns home for its final regular season series versus Adams State this Saturday and Sunday.
