MSC softball improved to 17-15 overall and 13-13 in league play with a series sweep of visiting New Mexico Highlands. The four losses dropped the Cowgirls to 8-37 overall and 3-27 in RMAC action.
Gabriella Parra's walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled the Mavs to a 1-0 win game one of Saturday's doubleheader. It was Parra's first hit of the game and just the third hit for MSC in the game. NMHU tallied two hits.
Sara Jordan pitched a complete game shutout allowing just two hits in the fourth inning. It is Jordan's ninth victory of the season and her third win in three games this weekend.
In the series finale MSC scored 18 runs on 14 hits in an 18-4 victory over the Cowgirls. MSC registered 12 runs on nine hits in the first inning. The Mavs added four runs in the third and two in the fourth inning.
Alicia Neuschwanger earned her first win of the season, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out two.
Five Mavericks had multiple hits and a combined 11 RBI. MSC recorded six extra base hits and a season high 18 Mavs played in the five inning game.
MSC's 'Swing for Life”, Cancer Awareness Day was netted close to $3,000 in the silent auction. MSC players wore pink jerseys in game one and were auctioned off during game two.
Next up for the Mavs is a trip to Silver City, NM to face Western New Mexico.
