Softball drops series at Metro

                Metro State (11-3, 4-0) won both games Sunday, sweeping the Mavericks (4-6, 0-4) in a four game series that started Saturday in Denver. The Roadrunners posted a 5-4 victory in game one Sunday, followed by a 9-2 win in the final game of the series.

                Metro scored combined for five runs in the first two innings in their 5-4 win. MSC scored a run in each of the first three innings to pull to within 3-5, but fell short scoring just one more run in the sixth. Lauren Cross went 3-for-4 in the game, while Gabriella Parra and Lita Romero each had two hits. Jessica Rayman (2-2) was credited with the loss, giving up 7 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits.

                In the series finale the Roadrunners scored 9 runs on 11 hits, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. MSC's two runs came in the fourth and fifth inning. Cross hit a solo homerun in the fourth and the Mavs scored 1 run in the fifth on a wild pitch. Parra fell to 0-2 on the year allowing four runs on four hits in the first inning.

                MSC will open at home this weekend as they host UC-Colorado Springs in a four game series starting Saturday at Noon.
