Rhett Breed (#133) and #3-ranked Chase Walker (157#) posted dual match victories in the Mavericks home dual against #19-ranked Fort Hays State in Brownson Arena. The Tigers won eight of 10 matches for a 31-6 win. With the victory the Tigers remained undefeated in RMAC dual action (4-0-0) and improved to 7-2-0 overall. The loss dropped the Mavs to 4-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 (RMAC).
#3-ranked Walker faced #4-ranked Danny Grater in the much anticipated match-up. Walker's takedown in the third period earned Walker a 3-2 decision and his 21st win on the year (21-4).
Breed tied the dual at 3-3 with an 8-7 decision over Travis Kuhn. Breed took the go ahead lead (5-4) on a takedown in period three, extended the lead to 8-4 on a near fall and held on for an 8-7 victory.
FHSU opened the dual with an 8-5 decision (125#) with Tommy Edgomon's 8-5 win over Miguel Baltazar. Breed tied the dual at 3-3. The Tigers won at 141 pound and 149 pound class weights for a 9-3 lead. The Tigers James Annon, #3-ranked at 141 pounds, defeated MSC's Jason Wenger 11-6. FHSU followed that up with a 5-2 Levi Younkin win over Keith Johnson. Walker's win at 157# pulled MSC to within 6-9.
The Tigers won the next five duals to close out the team victory. Cole Johnson was forced to default due to injury in the first period (hamstring). Kyle Brightman (174#) dropped a major decision and Luke Laurita fell 5-0 at 184 pounds. Andy Laiminger moved up a weight class to 197 pound and was pinned by Ben Evans. In the heavyweight match-up FHSU's Justin Glenn claimed a 9-3 decision over Dwayne Bacon.
MSC will host defending NCAA Division II champion Nebraska-Kearney Saturday night at 7 p.m.
