Box Score Mesa State (2-5, 1-3) notched its first RMAC win Sunday night with a 58-57 victory over Metro State (4-4, 1-3).
The Mavericks went on an 11-2 run with under ten minutes remaining in regulation to erase a nine point deficit and tie the game at 45-45 at the 5:56 mark.
Hannah Breidel's 3-pointer with 36 seconds left in the game gave the Mavericks a 58-57 lead. The Roadrunners failed to connect on three shot attempts with 11 seconds left, giving the Mavs their first conference win.
MSC outscored Metro 12-2 off the bench in the second half sparked by Breidel's 10-second half points. Breidel led all players with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Alaina Brennan and Katie Cupp finished with nine points each and combined for seven rebounds. Cupp had a game high six assists. Courtney McCaig and Jocelyn Zarling had eight points each.
All eight Mav players scored at least two points and recorded at least one rebound. MSC shot 85 percent (17-20) from the foul line including 8 of 9 in the second half.
MSC will travel to Division I Northern Colorado for a match-up with the Bears Tuesday night before breaking for the holidays.
