Box Score Mesa State (1-2) scored 51-first half points on the way to an 83-33 victory over Northern New Mexico College Monday night at Brownson Arena. The win was the first this season for the young Mavericks and new head coach Roger Walters.
MSC held NNMC to 10 points in the first half, forcing 20 Eagle turnovers resulting in 28 of the Mavs 51 first half points.
Sophomore Meagan Selvidge finished with a game high 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Selvidge was 5 of 8 from the 3-point line, including 4 of 6 in the first half.
MSC had four players in double digit figures; Courtney McCaig recorded 13 points and Lindsey Shaw and Jennifer Landers scored 10 points each. Shaw and Landers combined for 13 rebounds and five assists.
The Mavericks out-rebounded the much smaller Eagles team 48-22. MSC shot 53.8 percent (35-65) from the floor and held NNMC to 24.5 percent (12-49).
MSC opens Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action this weekend at Colorado Christian (Friday) and Colorado Mines (Saturday). Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m. and can be heard on KEXO 1230 AM and via the internet at www.mesamavs.com.
