Mesa State won five matches in their dual match at New Mexico Highlands Thursday night. The Cowboys also won five matches and the dual ended in a 23-23 tie. MSC and NMHU are both 1-0-1 in RMAC dual action.
MSC began the evening taking the first three matches. Miguel Baltazar (125#) started the night with a technical fall over Edwin Soriano 17-1. Rhett Breed (133#) won a 10-5 decision over Donovan Troup and at 141# Jason Wenger won 8-6 over Tyler Davey.
Chase Walker (157#) and Andy Laiminger (184#) notched the other two victories for the Mavericks. Walker pinned Nick Sanchez in 4:43 for his 12th overall win of the season. Laiminger pinned Andrew Roden in 4:00.
New Mexico Highlands was victorious winning decisions at 165# (Cole Johnson), 174# (Kyle Brightman) and 285# (Trevor Stapp). Johnson's loss came in overtime falling to Jarrod Purvis 3-2. The Cowboys posted two pins, matching the Mavericks two pins, at the 149 pound (Keith Johnson) and 197 pound (James Breidel) weight class.
Mesa State will close out the road trip at Adams State Friday night at 7 p.m. in Alamosa.
