Mavs Beat NM Highlands 68-39

                Mesa State Women's Basketball team hosted New Mexico Highlands Friday night in Brownson Arena. The two teams similar in standings coming into the game, the Mavs were at 3-13 (0-8 RMAC) and the Cowgirls were at 2-14 (0-8 RMAC). With both teams looking for its first league victory, the Mavericks made it clear from the tip-off; they would take it to the Cowgirls.

                Mesa State won 68-39 and improves their record to 4-13 overall and 1-8 in RMAC action.

Mesa State came right out and struck first with a three pointer.  The two teams battled back-and-forth for the lead until MSC took a 12-10 lead at the ten minute mark of the first half and never trailed again in a 69-38 win. MSC held New Mexico Highlands to just 13-first half points (4-25), forcing nine first half turnovers.

This Mavericks dominance continued in the second half outscoring the Cowgirls 37-26. MSC shot 43.6 percent (24-55) from the floor and held NMHU to just 23 percent (14-61) from the field. MSC out-rebounded NMHU 45-39 and recorded five blocked shots.

Three Mavericks scored in double digits led by Hannah Breidel's 13 points, including 4-for-4 from the 3-point line. Breidel had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in the game. Stephanie Delgado and Jennifer Landers finished with 11 points each. Delgado posted a double-double grabbing a game high 11 rebounds.

                MSC will travel to Western State Tuesday night and play at Western New Mexico (Silver City, NM) Saturday evening.
