Nick Provenza and William Kellar kicked off the fall 2008 season on the road going undefeated in singles play in three dual matches in Denver. Kellar finished the weekend with a 3-0 singles and doubles mark. MSC swept RMAC foe Colorado Christian 9-0, then defeated CSU-Pueblo and Metro State with the identical score of 5-4.
Number three singles player Nick Provenza posted a 3-0 singles record allowing just six games in his first two matches. Provenza pulled out a three-set tiebreak victory over Metro's Ryan Campbell (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8).
Kellar went 2-0 at number six singles with straight set victories over Colorado Christian and CSU-Pueblo. Metro did not field a full team, thus defaulting at #6 singles and #3 doubles. Kellar and Niko Carrizo went 3-0 at number three doubles allowing just one game in the pro-set matches.
Mavs number one player Jordan Chomko posted a 2-1 singles mark, defeating CCU and CSU-P's number one player. Junior transfer Rashad Khamis defeated CCU by the score of 6-1, 6-2. Khamis dropped two close matches to CSU-P and Metro State. Khamis and doubles partner Kevin Nydam finished 2-1 at number two doubles.
Nydam and Carrizo both posted 2-1 singles records. Carrizo's third set tiebreaker singles victory was the deciding match in the Mavs 5-4 win over CSU-Pueblo.
MSC will return to action at Neb.-Kearney on October 2. MSC will play in the ITA/Wilson Regional Tournament hosted by UNK which runs Friday through Sunday in Kearney.
