Mesa State (4-1-0, 1-1-0) women's soccer earned its first shutout of the season and its first conference victory defeating UC-Colorado Springs 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs.
Sophomore forward Daniela Ramirez (5'3, Rupert, ID) scored on a header off an assist by Katrina Hartfield (Jr., DEF, 5'5, Arvada, CO) at the 15:25 mark. It is Ramirez's fourth goal of the season (team high) and second game winning goal.
Alyssa Michel (Fr., F, 5'7, Bellingham, WA) put the Mavs up 2-0 (21:17) after an assist from Kylie Kegans (Sr., F, 5'9, Claremont, CA). It marked Michel's second goal this weekend. She scored her first collegiate goal Friday afternoon against Colorado Mines.
MSC's goalkeepers Kaitlin Bennett (Jr., 5'8, Federal Way, WA) and Julie Rasmussen (Fr., 5'0, Rio Rancho, NM) combined for the victory. Bennett started the game and played the first 52 minutes recording five saves. Rasmussen had one save in 38 minutes of action.
MSC returns home this Friday and Sunday to host Colorado Christian and Fort Lewis College.
