Mesa State (3-1-0, 0-1-0) women's soccer team dropped its first game of the year, falling to Colorado School Mines 2-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon at MSC Stadium.
Colorado Mines' leading scorer Kayla Mitchell scored twice for the Orediggers, scoring a goal in each period for the victory. Mitchell scored nine minutes in to the game on a break -a-way after a Maverick turnover.
MSC freshman Alyssa Michel (F, 5'7, Bellingham, WA) scored her first collegiate goal (36:02) to tie the game at 1-1.
Mitchell scored the winning goal (55:01) on her second break-a-way of the day.
MSC outshot the Orediggers 17-5 and held a 6-1 corner kick advantage. MSC Goalkeeper Julie Rasmussen recorded two saves.
The Mavericks will travel to UC-Colorado Springs for a match-up with the Mountain Lions on Sunday afternoon, 1 p.m.
