Box Score Mesa State's (3-3) three game win streak was snapped in St. George, Utah on Saturday night as Dixie State defeated MSC 88-76 in a non-conference match-up. Despite a season high 48 second half points, the Mavs allowed 58 points to the host Rebels.
Stephanie Delgado led the team with 19 points and nine rebounds in 26 minutes of action. Delgado was selected to the All-Tournament Team. Jennifer Landers added 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Trailing 31-28 at half the Mavericks took a five point lead on a 10-2 run to open the second half. Dixie took the lead on a made 3-pointer for a 45-42 lead and never trailed again on the way to their fourth victory of the season. MSC pulled to within two points with 10:13 remaining (54-56) but the Rebels quickly increased the lead to nine off a couple of MSC turnovers.
Dixie posted a 54-40 rebound edge and tallied eight blocked shots. MSC shot 45.6 percent (31-68) from the field. Dixie shot 43 percent (34-79), including 3-of-18 from the 3-point line. MSC was 0-for-7 from beyond the arc, the first game this season MSC failed to make a 3-pointer.
MSC returns home to open up RMAC action Friday night versus Colorado Mines. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
