Box Score Mesa State (3-8) dropped a 93-50 contest to #4 ranked West Texas A&M (9-1) in the first round of the Holiday Inn Christmas Classic in Brownson Arena Sunday night. MSC trailed 35-48 at half but were outscored 45-15 in the second half by the visiting Buffaloes.
MSC was lead by Hannah Walsh and Abby Hancock's 11 points each while West Texas A&M had three players score in double figures. MSC was out-rebounded 45-34 and the Buffaloes forced 24 turnovers, 15 in the second half.
West Texas A&M opened the second half with an 18-4 scoring run on the way to their ninth victory of the year. The Buffaloes opened the season 8-0 before losing at SE Oklahoma 69-65 before the Christmas holiday.
MSC shot 31.5 percent (17-54) from the floor and hit 9-of-16 from the foul line. West Texas A&M shot 46.7 percent (28-60), including 10 treys and 27-of-33 from the free throw line.
MSC will play Northern State (SD) Monday at 2 p.m. West Texas A&M and Fort Lewis College will tip-off at Noon. Northern State fell to Fort Lewis 60-50 in the earlier game.
