Belles Beat Mavericks 92-70

2008 Fort Lewis Classic

Box Score

In Durango this Saturday, Mesa State's women's basketball team played the Angelo State Belles and both teams were looking for their first win of the season. Mesa, coming off a near win over Oklahoma Panhandle on Friday, had high hopes of defeating the Belles. Angelo State built a double digit lead early and maintained it on their way to a 92-70 victory.

Angelo State came out strong at the start of the game and quickly built a large lead while the Mavericks were still trying to get organized. Halfway through the first period, the score was 26-12 and the Belles just kept going like a storm until the period was over. By that time, Angelo State had built a 47-28 halftime lead.

The Belles came out and opened the second half with an 8-0 run. MSC was unable to break a double digit deficit. Angelo shot 52.2 percent (36-69) from the floor while the Mavs shot 37.3 percent (25-67).

Alaina Brennan had a team high 16 points off the bench and was the only Maverick player to be named to the All-Tournament Team. Erin Richardson finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

MSC will host the Holiday Inn Thanksgiving Classic on November 28-29 at Brownson Arena. The Mavericks will play Johnson & Wales and Dominican in the two day event.
