GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- After a long road stretch, the Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team play at home for the first time this season as they take on the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Sept. 25. They will then travel to Gunnison to take on Western Colorado on Sept. 27.
Kickoff against Fort Lewis is set for 7 p.m. inside Community Hospital Unity Field while the match against the Mountaineers will occur at Katy O. Rady Field with kickoff set for 1 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on the RMAC Network (paid subscription required) and will have live stats available.
Week in Review
The Mavericks opened up RMAC play on the road against Colorado Christian and MSU Denver. They shut out both teams, beating the Cougars 1-0 and the Roadrunners 2-0. The game against the Roadrunners was significant because the defense did not allow a single shot for the first time since 2021. Jenelle Arenibas, Angelina Kazinec and Olivia Bariao-Arce all scored goals for the Mavs while Parker Mairs and Savanah Miller picked up assists in the MSU Denver game. Keely Wieczorek not only racked up six saves and held a shutout for both games, she was awarded her ninth RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week alongside Olivia Barrett who won Defender of the Week.
The Mavs currently sit in third place in the RMAC standings with an overall record 4-2 and a conference record of 2-0. They haven't conceded a goal in four consecutive games and have yet to concede a regular season goal at home since Oct. 27, 2024 against CSU Pueblo.
Rankings
The Mavs are currently ranked eighth in the South Central Region, according to the IWSOC Division II Coaches Poll. Dallas Baptist are ranked first with Texas Woman's placing second and Midwestern State third. The regionally ranked RMAC teams are Colorado School of Mines (#4), Regis (#5), Fort Lewis (#6), UCCS (#7) and Black Hills State (#10).
About Fort Lewis
The Skyhawks come into this match with 4-1-2 record overall and a 1-1 conference record with their win coming against #9 UCCS. Historically, the Mavs have a 20-20-8 record against the Skyhawks with their last match resulting in a 1-0 victory for the Mavs. The Skyhawks leading goal scorer is Emma Gurule with five, and Jenna Salazar leads the team in assists with three. Goalkeeper Trinity Lujan has started in every game and has made 31 saves while conceding five goals.
About Western Colorado
The Mountaineers come into Sunday's match with an overall record of 2-3-1 and a conference record of 0-1-1. The Mavs all-time record against the Mountaineers is 14-2-2 with their last match-up being a 4-0 pummeling in favor of the Mavs. Adah Minikel-Lacocque and Saya Ohama both lead the team in goals with three and Ava Odil leads the team in assists with three. The goalkeeping duo of Addison Blick and Ashlyn Fitzpatrick have both played significant minutes with Fitzpatrick making 20 saves and Blick 13.
