Mavs sit 13th overall, 3rd in D2 in national triathlon rankings

CMU has four athletes in top 100 of overall individual rankings

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's triathlon team sits 13th in the overall rankings and is ranked third amongst NCAA Division II teams, according to the first regular season rankings of the season, which were published by the College Triathlon Coaches Association on Thursday.
 
The rankings, which can be seen on the new CTCA website (ncaatri.com), show the Mavericks with 447.67 points, which are calculated from their top five individual scores.
 
The Mavs have four athletes in the top 100 of the overall individual rankings, led by Alexandra Schipai, who sits in the No. 64 spot with a score of 92.12 points from her 29th place overall finish at the Southern Hills Collegiate Cup.
 
Freshman Rosa Schmidt-Moll is just behind in 67th of the individual rankings with 91.67 points.
 
Shantelle Tupaz is ranked 88th with 89.71 points while Mackenzie Mayer is 96th with 88.59.
 
Sylvie Aardema Gagnon is ranked with 85.59 as the Mavs' final contributor and sits in the No. 122 spot of the individual rankings.

The Mavs were ranked fourth in the CTCA's Preseason Division II Poll.
 
Arizona State is ranked first overall and amongst Division I squads with 492.03 points.   The Sun Devils also have the top individual in Sindey Clement and two others in the two others inside the top 10.
 
Queens is right behind with 489.34 points while Wingate is ranked third overall and first amongst Division II teams with 486.20.
 
Lenoir-Rhyne, which sits eighth overall with 463.26 points, is the only other Division II team ahead of the Mavs, who are ahead of three other Division II teams in the top 20.
 
North Central, ranked 14th overall with 439.60 points, is the top Division III team.
 
The Mavericks' next race is close to home next Sunday (Sept. 27) at 7:30 a.m. when they host the Desert's Edge Collegiate Cup in partnership with the Grand Junction Sports Commission. 
 
Arizona State, fourth-ranked Arizona and fifth-ranked TCU will all be amongst the ten teams slated to race.
