GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team celebrated a milestone win and their seniors as they swept visiting Central Wyoming College and Trinidad State College by 5-0 margins in a Saturday tri-dual here on home sand.
The Mavericks and Coach
David Skaff, the only head coach in the program's 11-year history claimed their 100
th all-time win over Central Wyoming and then honored their four seniors prior to the afternoon sweep of Trinidad State, the program and Skaff's 101
st win.
They are now 4-4 on the season after also sweeping both the Rustlers and Trojans on Friday.
They are now a perfect 29-0 at home throughout the history of the program, which began in 2016.
As they did on Friday, the Mavericks swept all 24 sets, while holding their opponents to single digit totals in 14 of them.
The four seniors—
Ewelina Gacek,
Jessica Passi,
Gracyn Spresser and
Stormi Tadlock went a combined 7-0.
The Mavs once again kept a consistent lineup in the top four spots of the lineup.
Ellie Ask and Spresser won 21-6, 21-10 over Central Wyoming's Coco Denison and Ella Sevensson at No. 1 and then defeated Trinidad State's Kylie Williams and Dakota Martinez in the top flight match of the later dual by a 21-12, 21-8 margin after Denison and Svensson won the Rustlers' lone point
in a 4-1 Trojan victory of the middle dual of the day.
Ask and Spresser have now won five straight matches.
Gacek paired with
Ania Swartzendruber at No. 2 and won by a pair of 21-6 margins against the Rustlers before claiming a 21-11, 21-11 win over the Trojans.
Passi and
Ava Blanco then dominated in a 21-4, 21-10 win No. 5 against Central Wyoming. Passi and Tadlock then posted a 21-11, 21-7 won on Court 5 against Trinidad State.
The Mavs' also went 2-0 at No. 3 as
Addie Ritterbush and
Mikala Henderson recorded 21-6, 21-10 and 21-9, 21-8 wins.
The same can be seed for the No. 4 duo of
Lauren Rohlwing and
Regan Rothley, who posted a 21-13, 21-8 win in the morning against the Rustlers before sweeping the Trojans, 21-7, 21-8.
Eva Stewart and
Kiersten Adams also got an exhibition start against Central Wyoming, squeaking out a 21-15, 22-20 win.
Jada Whitall and
Avery Malek then won an 6's match against Trinidad State, 21-6, 21-9.
The Mavs will be off next weekend before starting a busy Spring Break stretch that will see them play nine matches in a span of five days between Tuesday, Mar. 17 and Saturday, Mar. 21. That stretch begins with a doubleheader at Tennessee Tech.
