SERIES HISTORY WITH MINES
The Mavericks and Orediggers will meet up this weekend at the Diamond at Hamilton Ballpark in a four-game, RMAC series beginning on Friday.Â
Colorado Mesa swept the four-game series last season in Golden with the closest game coming in game one with a 9-7 Maverick win. The average margin of victory in the series was nine runs per game.Â
The Mavericks are 122-20 since 2000 against Colorado School of Mines. They are winners of the past 15 matchups and 33 of the past 35 matchups in the series dating back to 2018.
SCOUTING THE OREDIGGERS
Despite the Orediggers record of 9-17, they found some success once RMAC play started. They split a series with Adams State then swept New Mexico Highlands on the road and are in the hunt for the playoffs.
Brody Duvall (.458) and Evan Bilter (.438) provide a lot of the Oredigger offense. Both are North of 1.000 OPS with Bilter leading the team in home runs with six on the season.
The Orediggers have struggled on the mound as they have a team ERA over 11.50. However, they do have an ace in Will Niles who has given teams trouble. He has struck out 23 batters while only walking six.
RMAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Colorado Mesa senior Cameron Cartwright was named the RMAC Player of the Week for the first time this season. The 2025 consensus All-American batted .500 with eight runs scored and 11 runs driven in.
Cartwright had one of those games in the series opener where he went 5-for-5 with three home runs and nine runs driven in. He was about 10 feet away from his fourth home run late in the game but settled for a double.
For the season, he is batting .341 with six doubles, two triples and three home runs with 22 runs driven in.
Cartwright was also awarded NCBWA South Central Region Player of the Week for his efforts.Â
A SURPLUS OF ARMS
The pitching staff has been one of the major strengths for the Mavericks this season. During the series with Colorado Christian, they had 20 different players make an appearance on the mound with Liam Hohenstein the only one to make more than one appearance in the series.
Only seven of the 20 surrendered an earned run in the series with the group combining for 33 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched. The Cougars batted .277 but did have 11 extra base-hits on the weekend.
PRO MAVS UPDATE
Colorado Mesa is blessed to have seven players in the MLB and MiLB Pipeline and some have already received their assignments to begin the 2026 season.
Kyle Leahy (2016-18) will begin the season in the rotation for the St. Louis Cardinals. Leahy is slotted to be the No. 4 starter and set to start on Monday March 30 against the New York Mets.
Bligh Madris (2015-18) is currently in the St. Louis Cardinals organization and is projected to begin the season with AA Springfield. Madris had an excellent Caribbean Series with Mexico Red and had a two-run home run in the final to help his team win the top winter league series.
Andrew Morris (2019-21) will begin the season at AAA Saint Paul Saints for the Minnesota Twins and will retain his spot on the 40-man roster.Â
Spencer Bramwell (2018-22) is with the Miami Marlins organization and will begin with AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
Stay tuned for where the other former Mavs will begin the season.Â
THE BLANK SPACE
Junior infielder Joey Blank was seeing the ball well last weekend in Lakewood. Blank batted .615 (8-for-13) with four doubles, a home run, and nine runs driven in. He added four runs scored and had an OPS over 1.800 on the weekend.Â
Blank has split time between the hot corner at third base and at second base where he saw most of his time in 2025.Â
DRIVE EM IN
Senior outfielder Kolby Felix has found a way on base in many ways and when he does reach, he usually scores. Felix is third nationally in runs scored at 46.
