#3 Mavericks head to Lakewood for four games with Cougars

SERIES HISTORY WITH COLO. CHRISTIAN
The Mavericks and Cougars will meet up this weekend at All-Star Park in a four-game, RMAC series beginning on Friday.

Colorado Mesa swept the season series last season from Colorado Christian winning all four games at The Diamond at Hamilton Ballpark. Colorado Mesa scored double digits in each of the four games with average margin of victory over 10 runs.

The Mavericks are 99-11 since the Cougars started their program back in 2006. They are 35-7 on the road against and have won 13 consecutive matchups against the Cougars.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
The Cougars come into the weekend with a 5-18 overall record and 1-7 in the conference. The split the opening weekend with Northwestern Oklahoma State before being swept in consecutive series by Saint Leo and Central Oklahoma. They earned their first RMAC win last weekend by defeating Adams State in the opening game of the series.

Lukas Hinze leads the Cougars at the plate batting .365 with 10 doubles and three home runs.

Chad Naf is 2-1 on the mound for Colorado Christian. He has the lowest opponents batting average out of the Cougar starters at .355.

ROTO RUTER
Redshirt senior Caleb Ruter was named the RMAC Pitcher of the Week after his brilliant outing against CSU Pueblo. Ruter pitched a complete game shutout against the ThunderWolves allowing five hits and striking out four in seven innings of work. The Pack did not have an extra base hit and they hit just .208 off of him.

In three starts against CSU Pueblo, Ruter has pitched 18.2 innings and allowed four runs on 19 hits, walked three, and struck out 21.

Ruter becomes the third Maverick to be named RMAC Pitcher of the Week this year joining teammates Jackson Eisenhauer and Justin Schramm who won the award earlier this year.

IN THE PEN
Some of the biggest improvements for the Mavericks from last season is the depth of the bullpen. Currently, the Mavericks have had 19 players pitch for them this season with 12 of them having an ERA under 5.00.

Sage Ferguson leads the team in appearances with 10 followed by Cayden Clark with nine appearances. Jett Walker, Jackson Lapiner, and Brenden Morris all have seven appearances with all players listed not having a start on the season.

Aidan Biaggi is among the national leaders in wins with five all coming in relief.

ALL THE SMALL THINGS
Through the seasons, Colorado Mesa head coach Chris Hanks stresses that they have to do the little things well. So far this year, they are doing just that.

It starts with playing catch. The Mavericks are fielding at a .971 clip on natural grass for their home games while the next three teams in order all play on artificial turf. The Mavericks are the top fielding team in the South Central Region followed by MSU Denver at .965.

They are 51-for-58 stealing bases right now with Kolby Felix and Joey Blank leading the way with eight and seven respectively. The 51 stolen bases leads the conference.

Finally, Colorado Mesa is one of the best bunting teams in the region with 21 sacrifice bunts. That leads the conference and ranks second in the region behind West Texas A&M who has 26.

HAMMERIN' HARA
Senior Kennedy Hara has turned into a real force at the plate after a slow start. Hara batted .533 with a double and three runs driven in the series sweep with CSU Pueblo. Hara was one of four batters that hit over .500 on the weekend.

Hara is second on the team in batting at .395 just one point behind Ezra Farmer for the top spot. He has seven doubles, two home runs, and 23 runs driven in.

LEAN INTO ONE
Senior outfielder Kolby Felix has been hit by a pitch 13 times this season to tie for the conference lead. The 13 hit by pitches ranks No. 3 in NCAA Division II with the National leaders sitting at 15 hit by pitches.
