VIRGINIA BEACH, Calif.— Colorado Mesa University sprinters
Joseph Randolph and
Teo Casados posted matching 200-meter times of 21.13 seconds to advance to the finals at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, which began on Friday here at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Randolph won the opening preliminary round heat and will be the fifth seed in Saturday evening's 2-heat, 8-man final after he edged Casados by a thousandth of a second in the tie-breaking process Randolph's more detailed mark was 21.122.
Randolph, making his NCAA Division II Championship debut after earning four all-America honors at the NAIA level over the last two years from Olivet Nazarene University, was also seeded fifth coming in to the meet.
Casados ran in the third of five heats and took third in what ended up being the fastest of the five. He was determined to finish in 21.123 seconds.
Angelo State's William Opare won that heat in 20.78 seconds and will be the No. 1 seed in the 2-heat final ahead of Carson-Newman's Amine Kasmi, who was second in that heat and overall in 20.87 seconds.
Casados was making his NCAA Indoor Championship debut and finished 15
th in the 200 meters at the 2025 outdoor championships during his first career national meet appearance. He was tied for 11
th in the pre-meet seeding.
Casados is set to run in Lane 4 of the first heat of the 2-heat final at 5:45 p.m. EDT (3:45 p.m. Mountain) on Saturday. Randolph will run in the same lane of the second heat with Opare and Kasmi to his outside.
As long as they legally finish Saturday's final, both will score team points for the Mavs and earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association First Team All-America honors.
