Hot-shooting Mavs blow past Regis

Henderson leads seven double-figure scorers in 26-point road win

DENVER— Ben Henderson matched a season-high with 20 points as one of seven Colorado Mesa University Mavericks in double-figures during a hot-shooting 95-69 win over the Regis University Rangers on Saturday afternoon here at the RU Fieldhouse.

The Mavericks shot at a season-best 62.9 percent (39-62) clip from the field and made 12 of 22 3-point attempts to finish with a season-best 54.5 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line in the 26-point victory.

Seven different Mavs canned 3-pointers.

CMU extended a season-best winning streak to five games and stands with a 15-7 overall record.  The Mavs are also 11-3 in RMAC play and now within a game of the conference lead and tied for second place after Fort Lewis suffered two losses in three days while Black Hills State was upended on Thursday night.

Fort Lewis is now 12-2 in the RMAC and must visit the Mavs' Brownson Arena on Thursday night (Feb. 12) in a game that could move the Mavs into a tie for the lead if they were able to win.  Black Hills State, the only team to defeat the Mavs in eight games, is 11-3.

Regis fell to 1-19 overall and to 0-13 in the conference with a 16th straight defeat, two of which have come at the hands of the Mavericks.

Henderson finished the night making eight of his ten field goal attempts and added a game-high seven rebounds as well as three assists and two steals.

Harvey White also added 15 points and four assists on 7-for-10 shooting while Clayton Jewell, Cohenj Gonzales and Tevin Riehl all finished with 11 points.  Wes Ball and Jaylen Pitman both finished with ten points.

Riehl's 11, which came from 4-for-6 shooting in 14 minutes off the bench, was a career-high.  Pitman matched his season-high on 5-for-6 shooting.

The Mavericks shot 56.3 percent from the field in the first half and built a 41-27 lead before going on a heater in the second half, canning 70.0 percent (21-30) of their shots from the field in the second half, including 10 of 16 3-point attempts (62.5 percent).

They were also strong handling the basketball, committing just four turnovers.

The Rangers' Luke Soden finished with 26 points on 9-for-18 shooting and made five triples.  Gunner Walters recorded ten assists but took just one shot.
