Nationally ranked matchup on tap for #9 Mavericks

SERIES HISTORY WITH AUGUSTANA
This wont be the first meeting between the Mavericks and Vikings but it will be the second. The two schools met up in the 2011 NCAA Central Region Tournament with Colorado Mesa coming out on top 4-3 in that game that was played in St. Cloud, Minn.

The Vikings were 39-16 a season ago and were double dipped in the NSIC Championship game by then No. 4 ranked Minnesota State.

Augustana is no stranger to Cary as they won the Central Region Championship in the 2018 season and the 2023 season. They won the National Championship in 2018 defeating Columbus State 3-2.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
Augustana has gotten off to a hot start with an 8-0 record including 6-0 in the NSIC. They swept Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth with lopsided scores in six of the eight total games.

Jake Lundquist is the Vikings leading hitter early this season. Lundquist is hitting .529 with three doubles and two home runs. He has recorded a hit in seven of the eight games with two home runs coming in the Duluth series.

Ethan Hoffman has been flat out dominant on the mound this season. He has pitched 10 innings and allowed six hits and 15 strikeouts. He had eight strikeouts in the Vikings win over Minnesota Duluth.

EL PRESIDENTE
Freshman righthander Jackson Eisenhauer has had a solid start to his first collegiate campaign and was awarded the RMAC Pitcher of the Week after his start against Montana State Billings. Eisenhauer pitched five shutout innings to earn his first collegiate win. He allowed two hits with the Yellowjackets hitting just .133 off of him and didnt allow a runner past second base.

For the season, the Los Angeles, Calif. native is 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched. He has allowed 11 hits, walked one and struck out 13, good enough for second on the team.

FROM A to Z
The Mavericks have a wealth of riches at times on the mound and one of the guys that may go unnoticed at times is senior CJ Zwahlen. The Laguna Niguel, Calif. native has pitched at the back of the bullpen for three straight weeks now and is leading the team in saves with two. Both of those saves are three inning outings.

Zwahlen has pitched 8.1 shutout innings allowing three hits and striking out eight. He leads a trio of Mavericks who have yet to allow an earned run this season.

YOU WIN GAMES WITH PITCHING AND DEFENSE
The title of the note says it all, "You win games with pitching and defense." It is an age old adage that holds true to this day and it was on full display last weeknd against a 2025 NCAA Regional participant in MSU Bilings.

Colorado Mesa committed just two errors in 141 chances for a .986 fielding percentage.

On the pitching side, the Mavericks finished the weekend with a 1.85 team ERA. They pitched 34 innings and allowed 31 hits, walked 11 and struck out 36 batters with the Yellow Jackets hitting just .246 in the series.

The starting pitchers allowed three earned runs in 16 innings pitched while the bullpen gave up 15 hits in 18 innings.

FORMING THE LINEUP
With the return of Cameron Cartwright to the lineup, the Mavericks lineup is starting to shape up rather nicely from a name recognition standpoint.

Kolby Felix has almost cemented himself as the leadoff guy followed by either Ezra Farmer and Cartwright. Farmer is leading the team with a .400 batting average, Felix is one of the leaders in OPS and Cartwright is among the team leaders in doubles.

Transfer Landon Nunes has slotted nicely into the four hole in the order with a .389 batting average followed by Trevor Tse in the five hole with a teeam leading two home runs.

HIT FACTORY
Colorado Mesa batted .355 in the series with Montana State Billings with five players finishing the weekend with batting averages North of .400. The Mavericks had 44 hits on the weekend with only 11 of those going for extra bases. That means three quarters of their hits were singles and they benefited from 23 walks and seven hit by pitches to get runners in place.
