Mavericks Start Four Game Homestand

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team begins a four game homestand with two games against New Mexico Highlands and Adams State. The Mavericks will host both teams at Community Hospital Unity Field this week. They will play the Cowgirls on Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. and then take on the Grizzlies on Oct. 11 at 2:30 p.m.

Both games will be broadcast on the RMAC Network (paid subscription required) and will have live stats available. 

Sunday's match against Adams State will mark Senior Day as the team will honor its seniors after the game. 

Last Time Out 
The Mavs hosted the #1 ranked Florida Tech in their last nonconference game of the season and then traveled to South Dakota to play Black Hills State. They drew with the Panthers 1-1 and then came up short 2-1 against the Yellowjackets.  

Ellie Duncan scored her fifth goal of the season against the Panthers while Parker Mairs scored her third against Black Hills State. Sarah Dunn also tacked on her first assist as well against the Yellowjackets. 

Offensive Stats  
As a team, the Mavs are outscoring their opponents 13-6 Duncan added to her team-leading goal total of five while Mairs and Jenelle Arenibas lead the Mavs in assists with two. The points leader is Duncan with 11 with Mairs and Olivia Bariao-Arce following behind. 

Defensive Stats 
So far the defense has only allowed six goals through ten games, they've also given up only 84 shots on the season. Leading the charge on defense is Dunn who leads the team in minutes with 885. Barrett, Ella Speerschneider and Kylie Hoffman have all played roles in this stout Mavs defense.

Wieczorek has totaled 879 minutes between the sticks and has made 38 saves on 80 shots faced, good for a save percentage of .864. She also leads the RMAC in goals against average (0.62) and shutouts (6). 

RMAC Honors 
So far this season, the Mavs have had three RMAC Players of the Week. Olivia Barrett won back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week awards, becoming the first Mavs since Keely Wieczorek to win the RMAC weekly honors in consecutive weeks. Speaking of Wieczorek, she won her ninth career Goalkeeper of the Week award, adding onto her already decorated career. Duncan also won her first career Offensive Player of the Week and became the first Mavs since Sauvelyne Randel in 2024 to win the weekly award. 

RMAC Standings  
Regis still leads the RMAC with 18 points and have won eight straight games. Black Hills has overtaken second place with 13 points after beating CMU. CMU and UCCS are now tied for third on 12 points.  

Colorado School of Mines won their two games and now have sole possession of fourth place with ten points. Just behind them with nine points is Fort Lewis, who has gone on a three-game winning streak.  

Western Colorado has also won two in a row and sit in sixth with seven points. Westminster follows them with five points.  

Colorado Christian and MSU Denver are level on points with four while Adams State has three. New Mexico Highlands are bottom of the table, still with zero points.  

Regional Rankings  
The Mavs dropped to seventh in the South Central region, according to a new poll done by the IWSOC Coaches Poll in Partnership with United Soccer Coaches.

Dallas Baptist are first in the region and second in the country with a perfect 11-0 record. Midwestern State (#2) and Texas Woman's (#4) round out the top five.

The RMAC teams that join the Mavs in the rankings are Regis (#3), Black Hills State (#5) and Colorado School of Mines (#9). 

About New Mexico Highlands   
It has not been a kind year for the Cowgirls as they own a winless record of 0-9-1. Their lone point of the year came against Eastern New Mexico when they drew 0-0.  

Dalma Zsigó, Taylor Delgado, Mia Roybal and Tammia Thorpe have all scored at least one goal for the Cowgirls. Zsigó is the only player who has registered an assist as well.  

The Cowgirls have used three goalkeepers this season: Mathilda Brücke, Haylee Driscoll and Peyton Greener. All of them have combined for 95 saves with Greener making 63, Driscoll 23 and Brücke nine.  

About Adams State  
The Grizzlies have an overall record of 5-5-1 and have an up-and-down season. They went 4-1-1 against non-conference opponents but have since gone 1-4 in conference play, with their win coming against Colorado Christian.  

Keira Robertson leads the team in goals with four while Sophia Miera totals the most assists with two.  

Mari Jimenez has played in six games between the sticks for the Grizzlies and has made 22 saves. Kena Kayes has also started in goal, making 12 saves of her own.  

Take a Look Ahead  
The Mavs remain at home as they take on Colorado School of Mines on Oct. 16. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. inside Community Hospital Unity Field.
