COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Clayton Jewell was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's men's basketball Defensive Player of the Week this afternoon as released by conference officials.
Jewell earns this honor after having a dominant week for the Mavericks in which he helped Colorado Mesa go 2-0 against RMAC opponents and help them move into a tie for second place.
In the two games played Jewell collected a total of 37 points, 21 rebounds, eight assists, three blocks and six steals while recording back-to-back double doubles.
He has now recorded three straight double doubles this season while scoring in double figures for seven consecutive games.
In the Mavs' win over Western Colorado Jewell had 16 points with 11 rebounds while also adding four steals and one block. He then performed even better against Westminster recording 21 points and ten rebounds while having two blocks and two steals.
Jewell earns this award for the first time in his career while being the second Mav to earn player of the week honors this season.
Stewart Erhart joins Jewell as he was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in a row.
