AZUSA, Calif.— Megan Hodges moved into the No. 4 spot of program history with a NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying time in the women's 5,000 meters while
Brooke Miller ran to an actual season-best time in the 800 meters as the two distance runners represented the Colorado Mesa University women's track & field team on Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Hodges ran in the morning Breakfast with Beynon portion of the day and in the Open B heats, placing 16
th out of nearly 100 runners in four heats with a time of 16 minutes, 55.92 seconds, nearly four seconds under the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 16:59.79.
Hodges' time should also safely qualify her for next week's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships and makes her just the fourth Maverick to go under 17 minutes including
Kira MacGill, Alexis Skarda and Lauren Lipski, some of the most decorated Maverick distance runners in program history.
Miller ran in the Invite Sections of the 800 meters during the afternoon session and ran to a time of 2:11.59, just under her true season-best of 2:11.53 at last month's Chuck Haering Classic in Pueblo, Colorado. However, that former time lowered to 2:10.83 on the national and RMAC performance lists with the altitude conversion.
Both Mavericks are slated to run again on Friday in the 1,500 meters. They are both currently seeded to run in same invite section heat at 7 p.m. PDT (8 p.m. Mountain).
