SERIES HISTORY WITH CSU PUEBLO
The Mavericks and ThunderWolves were bitter rivals for several year's from the early 2000s to the early 2010s with the two programs battling it out for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season titles.Â
Despite the tight battles, the Mavericks own a 101-40 record against the ThunderWolves since 2000. They are 49-13 at home in that time span and are winners in seven of the past 10 matchups in the series.Â
Last season, the Mavericks won the season series 3-2 which included a 5-3 win in the RMAC Tournament. The two teams split the series in April in an early spring snow storm that occurred at The Diamond.
SCOUTING THE THUNDERWOLVES
The Pack have started the season out 10-8 with series against two of the same opponents as the Mavericks. They played MSU Billings and Northwest Nazarene where they went 3-5 against those opponents. They were off to start the RMAC schedule but split with Lubbock Christian.
Christian Castaneda lead the ThunderWolves with a .429 average and five home runs. He has a hit in every game for CSU Pueblo this season.
Travis Farrell leads CSU Pueblo on the mound as he is 4-0 in five starts. He has pitched 30 and a third innings and struck out 29 while surrendering just 28 hits.
MINI MILESTONE
Everyday center fielder Paul Schoenfeld is on deck for a mini milestone this weekend. Schoenfeld enters the weekend with 99 hits in his Colorado Mesa career. Schoenfeld came to the Mavericks as a sophomore from Butler Community College and recorded 24 hits his first season. He followed with 47 hits last season and is sitting on 28 hits through 18 games this year.
RMAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Redshirt junior Gauge Lockhart was named the RMAC Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career following his start against New Mexico Highlands last Saturday. The Delta, Colo. native led the Mavericks to the series and RMAC opening victory over the Cowboys.
The righty allowed one run on three hits, walked four and struck out five in six innings of work to improve to 3-0 on the season. The best inning he had was his last where he recorded two strikeouts and a ground out.
For the season, he is now 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA with opponents hitting just .185 off of him. He has pitched 16 innings and allowed 10 hits and struck out 16.
BREAKOUT WEEKEND
After facing stiff competition the first four weeks of the season, the Mavericks were able to breakout on both the mound at the plate. The Mavericks scored 64 runs in the series and surrendered just eight runs in the four games.
Colorado Mesa batted .410 in the series as a team with a team OPS over 1.200 with 10 of the Maverick batters who recorded at least four at-bats hit over .400 on the weekend.
Kolby Felix and Christos Stefanos drove in 10 and 14 runs respectively. Both batters finished the weekend with an OPS above 1.800 and combined for seven round trippers.
The pitching staff limited Highlands to a .162 batting average on the weekend and had an ERA of 1.50. The Cowboys finished with just 16 hits (seven extra base-hits) and struck out 31 times.
The Maverick starters of Lockhart, Ethan Voss, Liam Hoehenstein and Jordan Pace limited the Cowboys to four runs on 11 hits and 16 strikeouts. Â
PICK IT
One of the hallmarks of the Colorado Mesa baseball team this year is their defense. As a team, they have a fielding percentage of .976 and that includes playing four of their five series on natural surfaces. This weekend by playing at home, they will make it five of the last six series on natural surfaces.Â
Last weekend in the series with New Mexico Highlands, the Mavericks played error free through all four games. They had 125 chances in the field and recorded 90 putouts and 35 assists.Â
SCHEDULE CHANGE
For the second straight week, the schedule will move to Saturday, Sunday, and Monday as weather threatened the Grand Junction area on Friday. Stay tuned to CMUMavericks.com for further scheduling changes and updates.

All eight finished in the minors but two of them saw action in Major League Baseball during the 2024 season. RMAC DOMINATION
Colorado Mesa won its 12th straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title in 2024 and was the unanimous selection to win their 13th in row in the RMAC Preseason Poll as selected by the coaches prior to the season.Â
Since 2009, Colorado Mesa has won 82 percent of their games against RMAC competition as they have a 481-105 record in that span prior to the season.
