GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's scheduled women's wrestling trip to Adams State University on Friday (Feb. 7) has been canceled as the two programs have agreed to cancel the dual in Alamosa due to injuries within the second-year Grizzly program.
The dual was a scheduled non-conference contest after the teams wrestled in their official RMAC counting dual on Jan. 25 in CMU's Brownson Arena, a dual that CMU won 38-8.
The two teams then faced off again this past Saturday at the RMAC Championships in Colorado Springs. CMU had five individual champions and won the first ever team title.
ASU, had their first two individual champions in program history, including Wrestler of the Meet Austria Holland, and took fourth in the final team standings.
With this cancelation, the Mavericks will finish the season with a 13-3 overall dual meet record, the second best mark in CMU program history.
Both teams will now focus on the upcoming Feb. 22 NCWWC Region 8 Tournament in Denton, Texas. The top four individual finishers in each weight class at that tournament will then advance to the NCWWC National Championships on Mar. 7-8 in Coralville, Iowa.
