COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks have swept the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards, announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Junior
Jax Juarros was named as the RMAC Men's Diver of the Week for the second time this season and the fifth in his career while senior
Kenya Meyer claimed her second Women's Diver of the award of the campaign and the fourth of her career.
Senior
Olivia Hansson also claimed her second Women's Swimmer of the Week honor this season and the third of her career while redshirt senior
Aron Jonsson won his first Men's Swimmer of the Week honor.
The men's awards were based off the Mavs' performances in last Friday's Halloween dual at NCAA Division I Utah. The women's honors were based on those performances as well as the team's Oct. 24 double dual at Colorado State and against Denver. The RMAC did not bestow women's honors last week as less than 50 percent of the conference's nine teams had competed. Thus, the accomplishments were rolled into this week's selection process.
Juarros, who hails from Gilbert, Arizona, surpassed the NCAA Championship qualifying standard of 285 points by placing second amongst nine men in the 1-meter diving event at last Friday's dual with a 6-dive score of 290.18 points. He also placed fifth on the 3-meter board with 260.33 points.
Jonsson, a native of Kópavogur, Iceland, won the 200-yard breaststroke for the second straight meet, setting a season-best altitude-adjusted time of 2:01.54 against the Utes. That time leads the RMAC by nearly two seconds this season. He also took second in the 100 breast with a time of 56.44 and led the Maverick men with 13 team points in the dual.
Hansson, who hails from Kivik, Sweden, claimed three wins and three other second place finishes while posting times that eclipsed the NCAA "B" cut standards four times over the two weeks. In last Friday's dual at Utah, Hansson won both the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle and scored a meet-high 22 team points while also adding second place finishes in the 200 free and as the anchor on the Mavs' 200 free relay team.
In the double-double against Colorado State and Denver, she won the 1,000 free and placed second in the 500 free.
Hansson continues to lead the NCAA Division II Top Times report in both the 500 Free (4:49.95) and 1000 Free (9:57.07) and ranks third in the 200 Free at 1:48.53.
Meanwhile, Meyer led the Maverick women's diving contingent against the Division I opponents. The Bozeman, Montana native finished fourth in the 1-meter and sixth in the 3-meter out of a field of 16 divers in the Oct. 24 double dual against Colorado State and Utah, defeating 13 combined Division I opponents while scoring six team points in the dual against Denver and four against Colorado State.
She then took third in the 3-meter and fourth in the 1-meter event out of a field of ten against Utah. She scored five team points and led the Mavericks in both events while defeating three Ute opponents.
The Mavs will continue their season with the Nov. 19-22 TYR/CMU Invitational.
