CMU Alpine Ski traveled Purgatory Ski Resort over the weekend. CMU was joined 7 other teams who participate in the Rocky Mountain conference (Air Force, CU, DU, CO School of Mines, Western, CSU, and Fort Lewis) for this race. In addition to University of Utah from the Grand Teton Conference. Both days consisted of giant slalom racing on one of the most challenging and fun slopes in western Colorado.
Saturday was highlighted by Durango native Gracey Hening of the women's squad who took home a 3rd place finish with a time of 1:38.70, and not far behind was Maddy Lind Smith and Patrica Casey. On the men's side
Colby Malpass led the charge for CMU finishing in 15th with a time of 1:40.15. On Sunday however the men's team saw strong results with Junior
Tanner Rozek finishing in 13th with a time of 1:39.20, followed by
Colby Malpass in 21st, and freshman
Ryder Sisac rounding out the top 30.
Alpine Ski will be racing at our home mountain of Powderhorn Resort for two fun days of racing, including Mavs Takeover the mountain day on Saturday, February 1st.
